Contrary to popular belief, it never used to be a prison island. It served as a quarantine station for yellow fever, leprosy, and pandemic cases in the late 19th century. The island is now a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors with its crystal-clear waters, white sandy beaches, and historical ruins. Changuu Island is also home to giant tortoises, which were a gift from the late 19th century British governor of the Seychelles. The island is famous for its population of Aldabra giant tortoises, which were a generous gift from the late 19th-century British governor of the Seychelles. This species is now considered vulnerable and has been added to the IUCN Red List.

When is the best time to visit Changuu Island?
Changuu Island is open to visitors all year round. Nonetheless, the most favourable period to visit is during the dry season, which occurs from June to October and January to early March. Make sure to plan your trip ahead of time, as this is a sought-after period for tourists to explore Changuu Island.
