Having a solid grasp of the seasons and weather patterns will greatly assist you in organizing an ideal vacation.

High-Season Wonders: Where Nature and Sunshine Collide

The period from June to September is considered the peak tourism season in Tanzania. During this time:

  • Experiencing the mesmerizing Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti, especially in June and July
  • Now is the optimal time to embark on a journey to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro
  • Be prepared for large crowds and expensive lodging options

Sholder-Season: The Wilderbeest Calving Season

Spanning from October to February, the shoulder season brings forth:

  • The hotter weather conditions occur from December to February.
  • The vuli season (short rains) and the kusi (seasonal trade winds) typically begin in late October.
  • Witness the breathtaking phenomenon of wildebeest calving, particularly during late January in the southern Serengeti.
  • Experience unparalleled game viewing opportunities in the Serengeti National Parkand Ngorongoro Conservation Area
  • Experience a more peaceful atmosphere compared to the busy peak season.Perfect timing for bird watching.

Low-Season: The Long Rainy Season

On the other hand, the period from March to May is considered the low season, when:

  • Due to the heavy rainfall, some secondary roads have become muddy, and certain areas may be partially inaccessible.
  • Discover the beauty of vibrant, verdant scenery, as well as the joy of observing magnificent birds in their natural habitat.
  • There are several locations available that may offer lower rates and a more peaceful atmosphere.
  • At this point, the temperature tends to be slightly cooler.
  • While it may not be the best choice for game drives, this destination is perfect for a Tanzanian Birding Safari.

According to safari experts, the dry season in Tanzania, from June to September, is widely regarded as the ideal time for wildlife viewing. Regardless of your interests, whether its wildlife, beaches, or culture, each visit guarantees a one-of-a-kind experience

BEST TIME TO VISIT TANZANIA

ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED

The ideal time to visit Tanzania greatly varies depending on your personal preferences. The optimal periods for a general wildlife safari are during the dry seasons, from late June to September. During this time of year in Tanzania, animals gather near water sources, making it simple to observe them.

The optimal times for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro are during the dry seasons, from January to mid-March and June to October. During these months, the weather is generally more predictable, with a lower likelihood of rain.

The optimal time for chimpanzee trekking in Gombe and Mahale is during the dry season, which usually spans from June to October. The chimpanzees are highly engaged and readily observable during their search for sustenance and hydration.

Traveling to Tanzania during the shoulder and low seasons can be a wonderful idea for budget-conscious travelers looking to avoid crowds. During these times, you can expect fewer tourists, lower prices on accommodations and activities, and a more authentic cultural experience. While you may encounter some rainy weather, the lush landscapes and wildlife sightings can make it a unique and rewarding experience.

The wildebeest migration is year-round, but the most spectacular events, like river crossings, usually occur between July and September in the Northern Serengeti. Thousands of wildebeests braved the Mara River during this time, risking their lives to reach greener pastures in Kenya. During this peak migration period, we recommend booking accommodations well in advance to ensure a front-row seat to this incredible natural phenomenon

The best times for beach vacations in Zanzibar and along the Tanzania coast are during the dry and sunny months of June to September and January to March. For those looking to save money, travelling during the shoulder season or low season could lead to more affordable accommodations and fewer crowds

Is Tanzania Safe?

WHAT OUR CLINTS SAY

I am not even sure where to start because everything was beyond perfect. Customer service was the best. The entire team took extremely good care of us. We hiked and in one day we saw a lot of chimpanzees in the park. Juma organized it on very short notice and Abbas is very knowledgeable about the park and took us to the best routes. Thanks a lot, guys!

I did a 3-days-2-nights trekking with We Cab Tours in Gombe National park. What can I say? Asante sana! The trip was just super perfect! I saw many chimpanzees (it’s not guaranteed for sure because as you know how wildlife is sometimes). BUT I did it in the end of March when officially is off-season and I still saw them. The weather was really good too. Juma, the owner and his employees are super nice people. I always felt safe and understood. Moreover everything was on time what is really rare to get – believe me. I would do it with this organization again for sure! And I will do some other trips when I am again in Tanzania

Juma, thank you for your hospitality and flexibility during our travel to Zanzibar. I had an amazing and beautiful experience because of your team. Your team arrived early at the RUI to pack our luggage in the van and patiently waited until we were ready to leave the hotel as were saying goodbye to our friends we met on the trip. I appreciate the time you took on our last day of the visit in Stone town prior to leaving for the airport. You helped us negotiate our fabrics and clothing so that we received the best price

Juma, Makame, Brendah and the We Cab family were the absolute best! They treated us like family, they were on time for every day we booked. They want out of their way to provide the best experience. When we booked the “scary ferry” ride to Dar es Salem, we were treated to a complimentary upgrade. We missed the stop in Nairobi where we were supposed to give donations to an orphanage and they made sure to find a reputable one in Zanzibar, and had one of their guides Brendah, translate on our behalf. I truly felt more like family than a client. I will definitely return to Zanzibar and use We Cab for all my transportation and tour needs.
