TIPPING GUIDES FOR KILIMANJARO CLIMBERS

A dedicated army of porters and guides makes Kilimanjaro climbing thrilling. These dedicated folks brave high elevations and adverse weather to give climbers an unforgettable experience.

Climbing Kilimanjaro is an exciting and thrilling adventure that is made possible by the unwavering support of a highly skilled crew, including porters and guides. These committed individuals fearlessly face the challenges of high altitudes and harsh weather conditions to ensure climbers have an unforgettable experience

Appreciating the hard work and bravery of these courageous people by tipping generously is a common practice among climbers. Tipping is not only a way to show gratitude but also a means of supporting the local communities that rely on tourism for their livelihoods

Decoding Tipping Amounts.

Tipping on Kilimanjaro is more than just a gift of kindness; it is a deep appreciation for the crew’s unwavering service and dedication. The specific service and the crew member’s function often determine the amount you tip. Here’s a rough breakdown of common tipping amounts:

  • Porters: $5 per day for each porter.
  • Cooks: $10 for each cook.
  • Assistant Guides: $15 per guide
  • Kilimanjaro guides: $20 per day, or more per guide.

When determining the proper tipping amounts, it’s also important to take into account the length of the journey, the route’s difficulty, and the overall experience the crew provided. We recommend allocating 10–15% of the trip cost for tipping

The Proper Approach To Tipping.

Understanding tipping conventions is essential for ensuring that each member of your climbing team is treated equally and honestly. Before going for your wallet, remember the following guidelines:

  • Always tip the porters directly, not through the guides
  • To ensure a systematic tip distribution, prepare letter-sized envelopes ahead of time.
  • Give a separate tip to each crew category: porters, cooks, assistant guides, and the main guide.
  • Distribute the tips on the final descending day, usually at Mweka Camp or the Park Gate
  • Tipping in Tanzanian shillings, US dollars, euros, and pounds is acceptable

Regardless of your tipping practices back home, your gratitude here on Kilimanjaro can make a huge difference. As you descend from the roof of Africa, make sure to express your gratitude in a tangible way that will actually mean something to those who helped you reach the summit.

As you conquer each peak, let your thankfulness resound as loudly as your triumphant cheer at the top. Allow WE CAB TOURS AND SAFARIS LTD. to guide you beyond the peaks on a rewarding mountain trip.

ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED

Tipping is a means of expressing gratitude to the committed team that helped make the climb successful. It frequently constitutes a considerable portion of their income. While tipping is considered optional, it is a significant tradition because the crew relies on these sums for a portion of their pay.

It is customary to tip in US dollars, euros, pounds, or Tanzanian shillings. You can vary the tip amount, but generally recommend budgeting around 10–15% of the total trip cost for tipping

We recommend handing out Kilimanjaro gratuities on the final descending day, usually at Mweka Camp or the Park Gate. This permits porters, guides, and other employees to appropriately receive tips before returning to their homes and families.

While we recommend monetary tips to help crew members meet their own needs, we also believe that offering personal gifts on top of money is a nice and meaningful gesture that crew members will undoubtedly enjoy

WHAT OUR CLINTS SAY

I am not even sure where to start because everything was beyond perfect. Customer service was the best. The entire team took extremely good care of us. We hiked and in one day we saw a lot of chimpanzees in the park. Juma organized it on very short notice and Abbas is very knowledgeable about the park and took us to the best routes. Thanks a lot, guys!

I did a 3-days-2-nights trekking with We Cab Tours in Gombe National park. What can I say? Asante sana! The trip was just super perfect! I saw many chimpanzees (it’s not guaranteed for sure because as you know how wildlife is sometimes). BUT I did it in the end of March when officially is off-season and I still saw them. The weather was really good too. Juma, the owner and his employees are super nice people. I always felt safe and understood. Moreover everything was on time what is really rare to get – believe me. I would do it with this organization again for sure! And I will do some other trips when I am again in Tanzania

Juma, thank you for your hospitality and flexibility during our travel to Zanzibar. I had an amazing and beautiful experience because of your team. Your team arrived early at the RUI to pack our luggage in the van and patiently waited until we were ready to leave the hotel as were saying goodbye to our friends we met on the trip. I appreciate the time you took on our last day of the visit in Stone town prior to leaving for the airport. You helped us negotiate our fabrics and clothing so that we received the best price

Juma, Makame, Brendah and the We Cab family were the absolute best! They treated us like family, they were on time for every day we booked. They want out of their way to provide the best experience. When we booked the “scary ferry” ride to Dar es Salem, we were treated to a complimentary upgrade. We missed the stop in Nairobi where we were supposed to give donations to an orphanage and they made sure to find a reputable one in Zanzibar, and had one of their guides Brendah, translate on our behalf. I truly felt more like family than a client. I will definitely return to Zanzibar and use We Cab for all my transportation and tour needs.
