The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is without a doubt among the most beautiful and fascinating places in Tanzania. The vast Ngorongoro Crater is the area’s centerpiece and one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles. Its magical scenery and abundant wildlife never fail to enthrall visitors.
Nestled in a range of extinct volcanoes that rise to heights of more than 3,500 meters (11,483 feet) is the Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage Site. It is the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera in the world, measuring 19.2 km (12 miles) in diameter, 610 m (2,000 feet) deep, and 304 square kilometers (117 square miles) in area. The Ngorongoro Crater’s first view is breathtaking. The crater alone has over 20,000 large animals, including some of Tanzania’s last remaining black rhinos. Animals are free to enter or leave the crater, but many of them stay because of the plentiful water and grazing available on the floor throughout the year.

Early in the morning, around 7:00 or 8:00 AM, the Ngorongoro safari departs Arusha. We will traverse the breathtaking Maasai Steppe, the Rift Valley’s Lake Manyara, the Karatu escarpment, and the Loduare Gate of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Visit the lookout to photograph the crater bottom after checking in at the gate. To discover more about the Maasai people’s culture and way of life, you will visit their hamlet. Spend the night in Ngorongoro at either the Farm House, Acacia Farm Lodge, or comparable lodgings in Karatu.
Following breakfast, you will descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, which is also known as the “Eden of Africa.” The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest unbroken caldera and is unparalleled in its concentration of fauna. With a bit of luck, you may be able to observe the big five within the caldera, as your vehicle will be in constant communication with other drivers to identify the most promising animal sightings. We will serve lunch at the picnic site and return to the crater rim in the late afternoon to relish the crater’s views and relax.
This morning, following a leisurely breakfast at the lodge, you will embark on a nature trek along forest trails with an armed ranger. Your luck may bring you buffalo, elephants, duikers, lions, and leopards. Upon completion of the walking excursion, you will drive back to Arusha town, with a brief stop at the Karatu and Mto wa Mbu market towns.
