GOMBE NATIONAL PARK WHERE CHIMPS THRIVES IN THEIR NATURAL HABITAT

Situated In The Heart Of Tanzania, Gombe National Park Is A Beautiful Sanctuary That Attracts Both Nature Enthusiasts And Wildlife Lovers.

Gombe Streams National Park is situated in western Tanzania, approximately 16 kilometers away from Kigoma town. Nestled along the picturesque shores of Lake Tanganyika lies the park. Jane Goodall's pioneering research has brought international recognition to the park due to its population of habituated wild chimpanzees. In addition to the large number of chimpanzees, the park is also a sanctuary for red colobus monkeys, baboons, and various bird species.

Gombe National Park covers a modest area of 56 square kilometers, which places it among the smallest national parks in Tanzania. Founded in 1968, the park provides a sanctuary for individuals seeking to witness primates in their undisturbed surroundings. Visitors to the park can also take advantage of additional activities such as sport fishing, kayaking, and snorkeling, which are available along the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Gombe National Park is an absolute must for anyone who adores nature and is passionate about wildlife. It promises an extraordinary and indelible adventure in Tanzania.

GOMBE NATIONAL PARK

FACTS ABOUT THE PARK

To reach the park, you have to either fly or drive to Kigoma and then take a boat along Lake Tanganyika. The trip to Gombe is an adventure in itself, offering stunning views of the lake and surrounding landscape. Depending on your budget and preferences, you can opt for a private boat, a spread boat, or a water taxi to get to the park.

One of the differences between Gombe National Park and other parks in Tanzania is its unique population of chimpanzees. Researchers, including Jane Goodall, have extensively studied these chimpanzees, providing valuable insights into their behavior and social structure. The park's lush forests and diverse wildlife make it a popular destination for eco-tourists and nature enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy guided hikes, birdwatching, and boat safaris along the park's scenic lakeshores.

Exciting activities in Gombe National Park include guided chimpanzee trekking, birdswatching, kayaking, snorkeling, and nature walks. The park also offers a beautiful beach with crystal-clear water, perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Whether you're venturing into the lush wilderness or simply relaxing by the shoreline, Gombe National Park offers a wide range of experiences for all to savor.

The best time to visit Gombe National Park is during the dry season, which usually occurs from June to September. During this period, the climate becomes more favorable for observing chimpanzees. Nevertheless, the park remains open all year round, allowing visitors to also opt for a visit during the rainy season from October to May.

The choice depends on personal tastes and trip goals. Traveling as a group can strengthen bonds and develop camaraderie, improving the trip. Its cost-sharing option makes it more affordable. However, traveling alone gives people more flexibility to make decisions and completely enjoy the experience without interruptions.

Indeed, Gombe National Park is an excellent choice for a family vacation. Young children under five cannot participate in hiking activities due to their young age and physical limitations. The young individuals, however, will remain at rest stops or campsites.

We recommend bringing lightweight climbing shoes or boots with sturdy studs, hiking tracks, lightweight clothes, and raincoats, as this park is hilly or mountainous and experiences a long wet season. Remember to bring mineral water when traveling alone, as sweating can quickly dehydrate you.

Chimpanzee trekking in Gombe National Park is generally a safe experience when visitors follow the rules and regulations set by the park authorities. Rest assured that our knowledgeable guides will ensure your chimpanzee trekking experience in Gombe National Park is both secure and truly memorable.

There are two accommodation options in Gombe National Park. The first option is a Tanapa-owned luxury tented camp and rest house. Mbali Mbal privately owns the second option. The Tanapa-owned luxury tents are perfect for those seeking a more upscale experience, while the private camp offers a more personalized and intimate stay.

Embarking on a chimpanzee safari in Tanzania, be it in Gombe or Mahale National Parks, requires a significant investment of both time and money. However, the memories and experiences gained from this adventure will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression, free from any feelings of remorse. Considering the scarcity of chimpanzees, numerous people believe the journey is worth it.stay.

WHAT OUR CLINTS SAY

I am not even sure where to start because everything was beyond perfect. Customer service was the best. The entire team took extremely good care of us. We hiked and in one day we saw a lot of chimpanzees in the park. Juma organized it on very short notice and Abbas is very knowledgeable about the park and took us to the best routes. Thanks a lot, guys!

I did a 3-days-2-nights trekking with We Cab Tours in Gombe National park. What can I say? Asante sana! The trip was just super perfect! I saw many chimpanzees (it's not guaranteed for sure because as you know how wildlife is sometimes). BUT I did it in the end of March when officially is off-season and I still saw them. The weather was really good too. Juma, the owner and his employees are super nice people. I always felt safe and understood. Moreover everything was on time what is really rare to get - believe me. I would do it with this organization again for sure! And I will do some other trips when I am again in Tanzania

Juma, thank you for your hospitality and flexibility during our travel to Zanzibar. I had an amazing and beautiful experience because of your team. Your team arrived early at the RUI to pack our luggage in the van and patiently waited until we were ready to leave the hotel as were saying goodbye to our friends we met on the trip. I appreciate the time you took on our last day of the visit in Stone town prior to leaving for the airport. You helped us negotiate our fabrics and clothing so that we received the best price

Juma, Makame, Brendah and the We Cab family were the absolute best! They treated us like family, they were on time for every day we booked. They want out of their way to provide the best experience. When we booked the "scary ferry" ride to Dar es Salem, we were treated to a complimentary upgrade. We missed the stop in Nairobi where we were supposed to give donations to an orphanage and they made sure to find a reputable one in Zanzibar, and had one of their guides Brendah, translate on our behalf. I truly felt more like family than a client. I will definitely return to Zanzibar and use We Cab for all my transportation and tour needs.
